Joyce (Krogstad) Baker

Joyce Ann (Krogstad) Baker, passed away on her 70th birthday after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. She was born on June 27, 1949 to Ernest and Catherine Thygesen. She grew up in Red Wing, MN and graduated high school from Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, MN. Upon graduation, she moved to Rochester, MN and enrolled in cosmetology school. She made many lifelong friends, while making many in Rochester look beautiful! On September 12, 1969 she married Mangor Krogstad and together they lived in Rochester until moving to Reno, NV in 1975. They returned to MN in 1981 and settled in Stewartville, where they raised their two sons. They were later divorced. She married James Baker in 2013, and moved to the Denver, CO area until his death in 2016, at which time she returned to Rochester. Joyce enjoyed knitting, reading, solitaire and socializing with friends. She was a dog lover and adopted several of them over the years from rescue agencies. Joyce is survived by her two sons, Erik (Shawn) Krogstad of Rochester and Andy (Melissa) Krogstad of Byron; five grandchildren, Brandon, Sydney, Devin, Connor and Kelsey; one great-grandchild, Adeline; three siblings, Judy (James) Illg and Jerry (Deb) Thygesen of Red Wing and Jane Wenblomm of Diamond Bluff, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law and husbands. A Celebration of Joyce's life will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 5455 50th Ave NW, Rochester with Father Thomas Loomis as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Seasons Hospice. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary caregivers of Seasons Hospice. They provided exceptional attention and compassion during her final days.
