Joy Elizabeth Vugteveen

Joy E. Vugteveen, 105, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Meadow Lakes Senior Living. Joy Elizabeth Mapes was born June 3, 1907 in Pender, Nebraska to George and Lilly (Miller) Mapes.She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.She received her teaching certificate from Wayne State in Nebraska.She taught on an Indian Reservation and later worked in nursing at the Austin Hospital.She also did home healthcare for patients in her later years.Joy enjoyed reading, needlework and spending time with her grandchildren. Joy is survived by two daughters, Mary J. Halverson of Rochester and Carol (Leon) Schrage of Iowa City, IA; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit Vugteveen; one infant son; one brother; four sisters; and four step-children. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes.Burial will be held in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, Iowa at a later date.A visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
