Johnie was a 1948 graduate of Central High School, Nashville, TN and a 1952 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
While attending college she was in the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity and was vice-president and president. Johnie ended her paid work career but switched to being a wife, mother and perfect example of what can be accomplished if you study, work, plan and provide unquestioned love and support to your family. She read, and studied, the Wall Street Journal for years to keep her interest in business and current events current.
Johnie also devoted much time to volunteer work with the Rochester Methodist Hospital from 1976-1980 (President in 1979) and 1995-96 (Shop Chair again) after they returned to Rochester. Johnie also volunteered with the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC 1984-1988 (President 85-86) while they lived there. She was also a member of the Tourist Club while in Rochester and enjoyed playing bridge.
