John P. Newell

The memorial service for John Paul Newell will be heldat 11:00am on Friday, August 4th, 2017at the Marion Church of Christ with Rev. Curtis McGinnis officiating. Burial will be at the Preston State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be heldon Thursday, August 3rd, 2017 from 5:00-8:00pmat Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church. John, 70 of Rochester formally of Eyota, passed away at his home on August 1st, 2017 with his loving wife by his side. John was born on September 12, 1946 in Rochester to Ira and Dorothy (Becker) Newell. He served in the United States Navy from 1964-1968 and worked in various trades during his years. John married Marilyn Bakken on September 21, 1970 in Stewartville and lived in Eyota for over 40 years before moving to Rochester. John enjoyed gardening, fixing machinery, being outdoors and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Eyota American Legion and active in the color guard for numerous years. He was very involved in the Dover Horse Pull for many years. John is survived by his wife, Marilyn Newell of Rochester; one daughter, Tammy (Rob) Ramer of Dover, MN and one son, Rudy (Chris) Newell of Plymouth, MN; five grandchildren, Alyssa (Daniel) Thoreson, Tiana Ramer, Lucas, Asher and Sophia Newell; five sisters, Carol Watson of Rochester, MN, Sharon (John) Woudsma of Goldsboro, NC, Gloria Newell, Linda Newell, June (Bob) Langton and Robin (Kim) Amundson, all of Rochester and two brothers, Leroy (Sharon) Newell of Elgin, MN and James (Maureen) Newell of Marion, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, two brothers, Lowell and Ira Newell.
