ROCHESTER:John F. Van Houten, 88, of Rochester, MN passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 at Golden Living Center East. John Franklin Van Houten was born July 30, 1927 to John and Elizabeth (Hager) Van Houten.John was born and raised in the Millville area.He worked for Springer & Pretzer Implement in Millville, drove taxi in Rochester and worked as a custodian at the Mayo Clinic for 30 years, retiring in August of 1992.John married Marlene Ress, the couple later divorced.John enjoyed fishing in Northern Minnesota, camping and spending time with family and friends.Although John had no children of his own, he was very close to his nieces and nephews and dearly loved by all of them.He was a man of great faith and a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester. John is survived by his brother, Eugene Van Houten of North Springfield, Vermont; two sisters, Rita (Francis) Schmidt of Plainview and MaDonna (Jack) Tutewohl of Farmington; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Donald; and three sisters, Gertrude Beck, Dorothy Rickert and Mary Laqua. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at St. Pius Catholic Church (1315 12th Avenue NW) with the Father Paul Nelson officiating.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.Inurnment will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
