John Bruce Schroeder, 83, of Rochester, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys campus. Bruce was born June 26, 1934 in Franklin, MN to John and Lena (Gerstenkorn) Schroeder. He was a graduate of Franklin High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. On September 14, 1956, Bruce married Beverly Smith in Ft. Dodge, IA. He owned and operated Franklin Oil Company until 1986, when he and Beverly moved to the cities and managed mini storage units before returning back home to Redwood Falls to retire. Bruce loved fishing, attending local high school sporting events and spending time with his family. He was an easy going, laid back, patient man. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly; children, Joe (Laurie) Schroeder of Buffalo, MN, Michael (Jennifer) Schroeder of Andover, MN, Barbara (Ken) Palmer of Rochester, Douglas (Lori) Schroeder of Belview, MN, Kathleen (Bret) Baumbach of Byron, MN; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Schroeder of Whitefish, MT; brothers-in-law, Gary (Nancy) Smith of Mesa, AZ, David (Mickey) Smith of Cheney, WA, Lloyd Schultz of Bird Island, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters; 1 brother and 1 nephew. A memorial service celebrating Bruce's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A private inurnment will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, MN.
