JoAnn Marlene Colvin, 85, died peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2019, at Cottagewood Senior Community. JoAnn was born January 10, 1934 to Ruth and Jack Hanson at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1952. She married her life-long sweetheart, Paul P. Colvin, on December 27, 1952 when Paul was on leave from the Air Force. After Paul completed his military service, which took the couple to Colorado and Illinois, they moved back home to start and raise their family. Their daughter, Elizabeth Ann, was born in 1961. Their son, Paul Phillip ll, was born in 1966. JoAnn and Paul were founding members of Good Shephard Lutheran Church. JoAnn and Paul eventually returned to her family church, Bethel Lutheran, where her paternal grandmother was a charter member, her father was a lifelong member, her parents were married and where JoAnn was baptized and confirmed, and where she and Paul were married. JoAnn was a multi-talented lady and devoted much time to many organizations including The Rochester Sweet Adeline's and The Bethel Lutheran Church Messengers Drama Ministry. She also taught the Bethel Bible Series for over 20 years. JoAnn was the owner of Court Ceramics and, after closing the studio, worked as a Secretary at Bethel Lutheran and then became Director of Shared Ministry for the church. When she moved to Kasson, MN, JoAnn worked as Administrative Secretary at St. John's Lutheran Church and then as a Secretary/Receptionist for Attorney, Paul Kiltinen. JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Steven) Schmidt of Rochester, MN; son Paul (Cindi) Colvin of Kasson, MN; grandchildren Malissa (Tony) Nelson of Rochester, MN; Nicole (Spencer) Sachs of Seattle, WA; Ben Colvin of Rapid City, SD; Adam Colvin of Silverdale, WA; great-grandsons Uriah and Ari Nelson of Rochester, MN; and a brother, David (Pam) Hanson of Oceanside, CA. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; sister, Beverly (Marvin) Mewhorter; and her parents. The family gives its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cottage #5 at Cottagewood Senior Community for taking such great care of JoAnn the past three years, to Pastor Linda from Bethel Lutheran Church who provided pastoral comfort to and prepared JoAnn for her journey home, and to the staff and volunteers of Season's Hospice who cared for JoAnn during the last three months of her life. Mom, your wish has finally come true: you are standing hand-in-hand with dad and you are at peace. JoAnn will be interred during a private graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery where she will rejoin her beloved Paul on December 27th, which would have been the couple's 67th wedding anniversary. Memorials are suggested to Season's Hospice or the charity of the donor's choice. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes is honored to be serving the Colvin family.
