Joan Slattery, 80, of Rochester, MN passed away Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 at Cottagewood Senior Communities. Joan was born August 12, 1938 to Sturmi and Frieda (Wendling) Reinhard in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Longwood Academy High School in Chicago and on August 1, 1959, she married Ken Slattery. The couple started their lives together in Chicago and later moved to New Lenox, IL. Along with raising three children, Joan spent the majority of her career in various roles at a popular family restaurant. After retiring in 1998, Ken and Joan moved to Surprise Arizona but spent many of those first years traveling the country in their RV. They then moved further south to Sahuarita, Arizona spending nearly a decade there. Joan's final move was to Rochester in 2016 to enjoy her twilight years closer to family. Whether going out on the town, playing cards or having coffee at home, Joan truly enjoyed spending time with her good friends. Joan also had an unshakable faith that was lived out in a variety of ways. She volunteered at the catholic high school her kids attended and at the various parishes she called home throughout her life. She was also quick to send a mass card, light a candle at church or pray the rosary for those in need. In retirement, Joan continued making new friends and soaking up the warm Arizona sun. She enjoyed water aerobics and the other social gatherings her new retirement community had to offer. No matter where Joan lived, she always loved spoiling her grandkids. Joan is survived by one daughter, Sherry (David) Nevins of Platteville, WI; two sons, Matthew (Beverly) Slattery of Channahon, IL and Mark (Angie) Slattery of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Cody, Scott, Devin and Liam; one great grandchild, Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Jay (Reinhard) Adams and husband Ken Slattery. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Pax Christi Catholic Church (4135 18th Avenue NW). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
