Jeannette Joan Trachy passed away on August 15, 2017. Jeannette Horzempa was born on May 20, 1923 at her parents home in Franklin, New Hampshire, third child of three to Anelia Horzempa (Uliszak) and John Horzempa. She graduated from Franklin High School, where she was the first woman to letter in tennis. During World War II she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a secretary supporting the War Department in the development of RADAR technology. After the war, she returned to Franklin where she became engaged to, and married Dick Trachy on June 14th, 1947. From 1947 through early 1951 they traveled the country to support Dick in his position at ATT. In 1951 they moved to Poughkeepsie, New York when Dick joined IBM. Dick and Jeanette moved to Rochester Minnesota in 1965. Jeannette was very athletic and competitive. She excelled in golf, winning the Rochester Golf and Country Club Womens Championship in 1973. She played tennis regularly until into her 80s. Jeannette was especially good at playing board games (Rummy-cube and Skip-bo) with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She hated to lose, but she always kept winning and losing in perspective. She was an avid recreational bridge player. She joined the St. Marys Pink Ladies where she volunteered in the St. Marys Gift Shop for almost 48 years, retiring in 2013. She also enjoyed their cottage in Shell Lake, Wisconsin where she spent many weekends and summers enjoying the outdoors and the camaraderie of family and friends. Jeannette is survived by her four children, Richard Jr. (Cyndi), Jeffrey (Josephine), Mary Asselin (Robert), Suzanne Sitko (Bruce), eight grandchildren (James, Jennifer, Thomas, Scott, Elana, Elizabeth, Julia, and Janet, and 8 great grand-children. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard, brother Stanley and sister Stella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at St. Johns Catholic Church on Sept 5, 2017.Visitation will be at 1:00 PM followed by the Mass at 2:00 PM.Memorials should be sent to the Mayo Clinic Poverello Fund.
