Jeanne Evelyn Samways

ROCHESTER - Jeanne E. Samways, 89, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester. Jeanne was born in Kansas City, MO on December 5, 1924 to Stephen and Isabel (Smith) Brod. She met and married her husband, Harry, in Kansas City, where both were employed by IBM, on November 9, 1946. They moved to Rochester in 1958, shortly after IBM opened its Rochester facility.She left the workforce after marriage to raise her family but later rejoined IBM to work more than 20 additional years. In the past she served on the board of the Senior Citizens Center and as a deacon of the Community Presbyterian Church. Jeanne loved spending time with grandchildren, pets (especially cats), dancing, and many hobbies. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Harry; three children, Marsha (Penny Spence) Samways, of St. Paul, Stephen (Kathryn) Samways, of St. Paul, and Carol (Michael) Helvig, of Kasson; and three grandchildren, Lacey Green, Alissa Green, and Taylor Helvig. Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alicia Anderson. She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by her family. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. Visitation will be during the 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakwood East Cemetery in Rochester. Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.
