Jean Hunter

Jean Ilene Hunter, 79, of Rochester, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Monday, August 19, 2019 at Cottagewood Senior Living Communities. Jean Ilene Alrick was born on July 14, 1940 in Kasson, Minnesota to Elvin and Violet (Trygstad) Alrick. Jean attended country school south of Kasson and graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School. While in school, Jean was a homecoming queen candidate for her kindness to others and was actively involved in her community. She enjoyed volunteering at West Saint Olaf Church, contributing to the 4-H community, and helping around her family farm. Following graduation, Jean moved to Rochester where she worked at Methodist Hospital and attended Rochester Community College. While at school, she met Richard Hunter. They later married on October 13, 1961 and lived their married lives in Rochester. Together they had two children, Bonnie and Bob. Jean always valued the importance of family. She heavily invested in her children as they grew up, raising them with values and ambitions. Jean then went on to work at Dayton's Department Store, Norwest Bank, and Mayo Clinic Credit Union until her retirement. Jean adored her family. She and her husband would spend the winters exploring Arizona and Florida in their RV and the summers near the lakes and rivers with their family and friends. Camping and attending her grandchildren's sporting events were some of her favorite memories. Jean loved anything that meant time with those she loved: traveling to see friends, cooking meals in the kitchen, sharing recipes, or shopping for fun. Jean brought joy and laughter wherever she was; her gentleness and delicious recipes will always be cherished by those she loved. Jean is survived by her husband, Richard Hunter of Rochester, MN; daughter, Bonnie Hunter of Andover, MN; son, Bob (Anne) Hunter of Dallas, TX; grandson, Adam Hunter of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Laura Hunter of Dallas, TX; sister, Dorothy Nelson of Cambridge, MN; brothers, Robert Alrick of Longmont, CO; David (Debbie) Alrick of Walker, MN; Gary (Sheila) Alrick of Rochester, MN; sister-in-law's, Jean Wiltsey of Rochester, MN, Mary Holmquist of Detroit Lakes, MN, Janet (David) Cobb of Green Bay, WI, Nancy Evjen of Apple Valley, MN, Carol Nordberg of Ocala, FL, Patsy Klindworth of Rosemount, MN, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Violet Alrick. Father and mother in-law, Lyle and Alice Cutshall, and a number of other in-laws. A memorial service for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Ranfranz Funeral Home (5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN). Visitation will take place on Friday, September 13, 2019, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
