SEVERSON Jay Michael Severson, age 50, passed away November 25, 2016 of natural causes. Jay was born November 18, 1966 to Lyle and Judith (Fryer) Severson at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Jay graduated from Kasson-Mantorville High School in 1985. After graduation, he attended RCTC in Rochester for one year. He joined the U.S. Army, but was given a medical discharge because of his back after basic training. He worked for Severson Transport, driving semi for a year and also worked in the shop. He trained as a paramedic in Dubuque, Iowa and worked as a paramedic in Clinton, Iowa and for Gold Cross in Rochester. He married Christine Koster on September 27, 1997 and divorced in 2014. They had no children. Jay graduated with honors from Brown Institute in St. Paul in computers in 1998. He worked for a St. Paul company that serviced and installed State Farm computers all over the lower half of Minnesota. He worked for Mayo Clinic technical support from 2001 until his death. Survivors include his mother, Judy Severson of Kasson; uncle, Bob (Nancy) Fryer of Byron; aunt, Ligia Fryer of Aldeia Pe.Brasil SA; special cousins, Tamara (David) Johnson of Frostproof, FL, Kristi Bakken of Hudson, WI, Andrea (Christian) Frost of Sandy, UT, Christy (Paul) Fosse and Patrick Fryer of Tampa, FL, Michael (Samyla) Fryer of Aldeia Pe. Brasil SA, Laura (Jon) Wuensch of La Crosse, WI and Sara (Jason) Whitney of Byron. Jay was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Severson; uncle, John Fryer; aunt and uncle Joan (Donald Toby) Phelps; grandparents, Oscar and Irene Severson of Kasson, formerly of Hayfield and Willis and Pauline Fryer of Mantorville. Blessed be his memory. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church, 201 Frontage Road NW, Byron, MN with Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Jay will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville, MN.
