ROCHESTER, MN: Jarrette (Jerry) Thomas Campbell, 90, dearly beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, MN. Jarrette was born on October 3, 1923 in Hico, Texas to Oliver and Mary (Chaney) Campbell. He graduated from Kingston High School, Kingston, Oklahoma. Jarrette entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, launching a dedicated and distinguished career, retiring in 1972.He proudly served for 30 years including World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, as well as many overseas and domestic assignments which lead to the Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal.He taught servicemen U.S. Navy college-level courses, served on the USS Sanctuary Hospital Ship during the Vietnam War and at various U.S. Navy hospitals in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Virginia. After military retirement, Jarrette enjoyed another career working for Health and Human Services for the State of Florida, retiring in 1987. On February 10, 2001 Jarrette married Marilyn Vincent in Ocala, Florida and they moved to Rochester, MN in December 2011. This 40 year Florida resident enjoyed coaching his sons baseball teams, camping with his family, gardening, carpentry, his many dogs and especially, a scoop of ice cream after dinner. Jarrette had a passion for traveling in his motor home, and developed many cherished friendships throughout his life. During his travels, he made a point to visit every state in the continental United States. Jarrette is survived and will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn; children, Dale Campbell and Sharon Boydof Colorado Springs, CO, John and Julie Schreiber of Rochester, MN., Tom Vincent of Orlando, FL., Peggy and Charlie Bertel of Duluth, MN; 6 grandchildren, Cory, Tim, Wendy, Andy, Jacque and Parker and 8 great-grandchildren. Jarrette was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Mary; first wife, Eleanor; son, Douglas; grandson, Jarrette and sister, Wynama Sherrod.
