James Ray Cadwell

ROCHESTER:James R. Cadwell, 81, died on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Jim was born in Columbia Heights, MN on December 24, 1932, to Donald and Susan (Hysell) Cadwell. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics in 1961 from St. Cloud State College. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Sharon Ellison on March 19, 1960. Jim worked at IBM for 22 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, working with wood and stained glass, painting, gardening, cooking, and playing bridge and Sudoku. He was a lifelong learner and teacher. Jim cherished his time as an apprentice corn dryer and performing other odd jobs on the farm. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon; two children, Lori (Randy) Gartner, of Rochester, and Brian (Steven Anderson) Cadwell, of Manassas, VA; two grandchildren, Nicole and Ashley Gartner; and a brother, Ronald (Charmaine) Cadwell, of Minneapolis, MN. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Susan; and a sister, Mary Sanborn. A Visitation will be held from 3-6 P.M. on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester. Memorials can be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
