James Patrick Miller, age 76, of Rochester, MN passed away July 21, 2013 at Golden Living East where he had resided since April.Previously he had lived the past 2 years at Sunrise Cottages.He was born August 19, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa.His parents were Claud & Stella (Hyberger) Miller.He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Cresco, Iowa in 1954.He then served in the US Navy, and received his education in Journalism while serving in the military.He married Joyce Funke on June 29, 1960 in Cresco, Iowa and she survives.His newspaper and journalism career moved him to various cities throughout his career, including Imperial Beach, CA, Fremont, NE, Stewartville, Plainview, and Lake City prior to his retirement and move to Rochester.While in Lake City, he spent 19 years as co-owner and editor of the Lake City Graphic & Hiawatha Design.During those years, his wife assisted him in the newspaper office.Since retiring and moving to Rochester, his wife has been employed at Hampton Inn South and Disons Cleaners. Surviving with his wife, Joyce, of Rochester are his five children: Andrew (Peggy) Miller of Byron, Chet Miller,and Jennifer Seeger both of Lake City, Lisa Miller of League City, TX and Sandra Erickson of Friendswood, TX.Thirteen grandchildren: James Erickson (Sarah), Sue Schroeder (Mike), Tabitha Miller, Drew Miller (Amanda), Bobbi Jo Miller, McKenzie Miller, Sam Wilson (Stephanie) , Kayla Wilson, Cody Robinson, Shane Miller (Amanda), and Alex, Kadey, and Kalley Seeger.8 great grandchildren: Sam, Eli, Emma, Ryan, Shelby, Kaylynn, Ayden, and Jonathan, and his siblings: Claudelle Tiedemann and Steven Miller both of Des Moines, IA.He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brother-in-laws, and a niece.A funeral mass will be held 11 AM Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Pax Christi Catholic Church.Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the church.Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa.Memorials appreciated to Pax Christi Catholic Church.Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home is assisting family with arrangements.
