James F. LaFave, 97, of Rochester, MN died Friday, July 19, 2019 at Samaritan Bethany Homes. James Ferdinand LaFave was born on February 26, 1922 to Fred and Nellie (Anderson) LaFave in Baudette, MN. He grew up in Elmhurst, IL. In 1939 he graduated from high school in Thief River Falls, MN. From 1942-1945 he proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard. On December 18, 1943 in Oxon Hill, MD he married Judith Halland. The couple lived in Berkley, CA, Thief River Falls, MN and moved to Rochester, MN in 1953. He started working as an electrician for the State of MN Department of Transportation. He was an avid sports fan, loved to eat cookies and enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. James was a great storyteller and enjoyed being around people. James is survived by his wife, Judith of Rochester, MN; two daughters, Jody (Paul) Metcalf of Mountain Lake, MN and Becky (Rick) Cordie of Oronoco, MN; daughter-in-law, Julie LaFave Everly of Zumbrota, MN; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one sister, Donna Johnson of El Cajon, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John; one grandson, Zachary; and one brother, Bill. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes (5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901) with the Reverend Dr. Charles Ortloff officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
