James D. DeFrang, 80, of Zumbrota, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at his home, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Rita.
James (Jim) was born January 20, 1944, to Helen (Welti) and Roy DeFrang in Plainview, Minnesota.
He went to Breman Country School and graduated from Elgin-Millville Hight School.
He served in the Army, then went on to Barber School. He was a barber from 1967 until he passed. Jim never really retired because he always said retire and then what. He cut his last head of hair 2 days before he got sick.
On May 11, 1968, he wed the love of his life, Rita Ring. They raised 4 children.
He enjoyed the outdoors, was a hunter and fisherman, very active in softball and horseshoes. He had many horses, mules and dogs. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their many activities.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rita DeFrang; children, Michelle (Brent) McNallan, Dan (Anne) DeFrang, Brian (Tami) DeFrang and daughter-in-law, Jess DeFrang; 12 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brother Jerry (Marge) DeFrang; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven DeFrang; his parents, Helen and Roy DeFrang and his sister, Judy Czaplewski and other in laws.
The family will hold a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life will be at the Zumbrota VFW on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 1-4pm. The public is welcome to attend.
