Ione Stoltenberg

Ione Stoltenberg, age 94, of Rochester, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016, at her residence.The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 869 Seventh Ave, SE, Rochester, MN. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Orphan Grain Train or Redeemer Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. Francis Ione Beck was born in Norcross, MN on December 14, 1921, to Gordon and Eda (Thompson) Beck. She graduated from Herman High School. She entered the Kahler School of Nursing and graduated in 1943. Ione was a nursing supervisor on the ninth floor of the Kahler Hospital. On October 31, 1945, she married Kenneth Stoltenberg and they made their home in Rochester. Ione also worked at Electronic Engineering Services as an office manager for 20 years. She was active in the Methodist Hospital Axillary working in several positions. Ione was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, held many offices and also worked on various mission projects for many years. Ione was selected as one of the volunteer women of the year in 2006 for the Rochester Women Magazine. She enjoyed baking, knitting, embroidering, reading and crossword puzzles. Ione is survived by her four children, James (Judy) Stoltenberg of North Carolina, Nancy Johnson of Rochester, Barry (Suzanne) Stoltenberg of Edina and Susan (Gary) Schmidt of Waconia; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Ione was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth who died on April 2, 2016; brother, Forest Bud Beck; sisters, Eileen Jesness and Betty Lou Beck.
