Ila Mae Crawford

Ila Mae Crawford, 96 of Rochester, MN passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Maple Manor Nursing Home. Ila Mae Anna Bates was born February 15, 1921 to Grover and Lydia (Miller) Bates in Austin, MN. Ila graduated from Austin High School in 1939. She married Clarence Crawford. Ila Mae joined the Womens Auxiliary Army Corps. She was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. She worked as a teletype operator and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant. When the war ended, the couple moved to a farm outside of Austin. They then moved to Rochester in 1973. Clarence passed away on June 30, 1976. Ila Mae enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, gardening and sewing. She is survived by her children, Judy (Richard) Berg, Marie (Clinton) Wilson, Charles Crawford, all of Rochester and Gary (Stacy) Crawford of Savage, MN; and five grandchildren, Brian and Karen Berg, Andrew and Ann Marie Stehr and Collin Crawford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; and her parents. There will be a graveside service on at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at MN State Veterans Cemetery-Preston.
