ROCHESTER, MINN:Howard William Jensen, 84, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 17, 2012 at Season's Hospice with his family at his side. Howard was born September 9, 1927 in rural Kasson, to Axel and Arkel (Mott) Jensen. He grew up on various farms in the Kasson area and attended Kasson area schools and graduated from Kasson High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Army in October 1948. He received his initial training at Fort Benning, GA and later at Fort Gordon, GA. Howard was stationed in Germany and attained the rank of Sargent before his discharge in July of 1952. After serving in the army, Howard returned to the Kasson area where he opened and operated a T.V. and radio shop until 1956. On April 12, 1955, he married Mary Ann Clawson in Rochester and they made their home in Rochester and were blessed with five children. His wife passed away on November 18, 2006. In June of 1956, he went to work at IBM in Rochester. He was employed until his retirement in June of 1987. After his retirement, he worked for Flower's by Jerry delivering flowers. He stated that it was the best job I ever had, and retired from there in 2010 due to health concerns. He was a long time member of Evangel Methodist Church and served there in various capacities throughout his time there. In the past, he enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts of America and as a youth sports coach. He sang with the local Barbershop Chorus and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Howard is survived by his three sons, Dean (Kim) Jensen and Brian (Marybeth) Jensen all of Rochester, MN, and Scott (Sharon) Jensen, Coon Rapids, MN; two daughters, Sherri (Patrick) Buttshaw, Rochester, MN and Nancy (Tim) Roche, Novato, CA; his grandchildren, Nick and Katie Jensen, Jared, Erik and Kenny Jensen, Tim and Sarah Schlee, Christian, Lindsey, and Allyson Buttshaw, Ava and Joseph Roche, and Emma and Jacob Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ann and his sister Loretta. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Evangel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. A private family burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials can be directed to Evangel United Methodist Church or Season's Hospice.
