Helen 'Sandy" Alice Reed

ROCHESTER, MN -Helen Sandy A. Reed, 89, was born into Eternal Life on Monday, March 5, 2012 at Maple Manor in Rochester. Sandy was born in Stanhope, IA on July19, 1922 to Martin and Alice (Nelson) Sandahl.She attended Simpson College.Sandy taught kindergarten and first grade after receiving her teaching degree.Sandy married Charles Mitchell Reed in Stanhope, IA on March 31, 1945.She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority, Nashville Garden Club, Rochester Senior Center, and Young at Hearts. She was a charter member of the Hillwood Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN.Sandy enjoyed singing, sewing, reading, scrap booking, writing biographies, playing organ, and was girl scout assistant leader. Sandy is survived by two children, Rick, wife Kathy, Reed, of Valley Springs, CA, and Sondra Reed, of Rochester; a grandson, Gregory Reed, of Valley Springs, CA; a sister, Evelyn Pierce of Lemon Grove, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Sandy is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; a son, Scott; three brothers, Everett, Merle, and Charles; and a sister, Marjorie. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home with Rev. Heather Klason officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Manteca, CA. Memorials can be directed to the Senior Center, Safe Haven Pet Rescue, Mayo Clinic Hematology, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
