Rochester- A Memorial Service for Helen M. Harwick, 73, who died on Friday, will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 28, 2011 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Anjanette Rist officiating. Burial at a later date will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 10:00A.M. A.M. On Monday until the time of Service. Memorials are suggested to the Mayo Clinic for Cancer research. Helen's Remains were donated to the Mayo Clinic for Anatomical Research.Helen Marie Batzel was born in Rochester, MN. August 13, 1937 to Merlin and Margaret (Mc Gowan) Batzel. She grew up in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. She married Leslie (Les) Harwick, June 25th 1955 in Rochester at the Rochester Evangel Church, now known as Evangel United Methodist Church.Helen worked for the Mayo Clinic for a short time before moving to Neosho, Mo. where she joined her husband who was serving in the US Army. Returning to Rochester she raised her family. She worked at Kellogg Junior High School while her children were in school but was home in time to meet them when they home from class. Her Husband Les, worked as a Route Salesman for Wonder Bread.After the children were raised she went to work at the Mayo Clinic as a Lab Technician. She worked at Mayo from 1976 to 1996. Helen loved to spend time with family and friends. She liked to travel, Go to the Casino, Play Cards, and go fishing (where Les said she won more than her share of quarter bets for first fish and biggest fish) and spending time at their summer place in Lake City.Helen is survived by her husband, Les; a son Brian Harwick (Barb Sperry) of Lake City, MN. A daughter; Nancy Knutson (Michael) of Rochester, MN. Grandchildren; Ashley Harwick, Ryan and Kiley Knutson and a Great Granddaughter Mia Harwick.
