Hazel W. Oistad

Funeral services for Hazel W. Oistad, 94, of Rochester, MN will be at 10:30am on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Hazel Winifred Sether was born on June 25, 1921 in Halstad, MN to Marius and Borghild (Bjorvik) Sether.She passed away on October 6, 2016 at Season's Hospice. Hazel graduated from Halstad High School.She married Arnold O. Oistad on August 24, 1940 in Perley, MN and they moved to Rochester in 1953.She retired from the Dietary Department of Rochester Methodist Hospital in 1984. She was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church.She was the Chairperson of the Quilters Group and helped make Lefsa for the Christmas Bazaar.She won the volunteer of the year award at the Rochester Senior Center for all the knitting she did for the Head Start Program and all the premie beanies she made over the years.She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters, Elaine (Vern) Skarstad of Manor, TX and Arlene Nielsen of Denver, CO; sons, Dale (Virginia) Oistad of New Berlin, WI and Bradley Oistad of Des Moines, IA;six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren and one sister, Mathilda Blomseth of Twin Valley, MN.She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, one grandson, one brother, three sisters and a son-in-law. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Zumbro Lutheran Church Quilters Group, Womens's Shelter Group or Seasons Hospice.
