Funeral services for Harvey L. Newkirk, 84, of Rochester, MN will be at 10:00am on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester.Visitation will be from 5:00 8:00pm on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will be at Washington Cemetery near Spring Valley, MN. Harvey Leon Newkirk was born on May 28, 1931 in Mower County, MN to Gilbert and Iva (Cogswell) Newkirk.He passed away on September 23, 2015 at Rochester Methodist Hospital under the care of Mayo Clinic Hospice. Harvey attended Grand Meadow High School and Rochester Community College.He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1953.On July 3, 1954, he married Joan Horsman in West Concord, MN.Harvey worked in computer manufacturing for IBM for over 33 years.He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Century Square Dance Club and the Korean War Veterans Club.He enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings, golfing, gardening, fishing, reading and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Joan Newkirk of Rochester, MN; two daughters, Jolynn (Marty Sr.) Hornecker of Evanston, WY and Jill (Jeff) Schroeder of Eden Prairie, MN, one son, Jeff (Margi) Newkirk of Rochester, MN; ten grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Darlene McBeain and Betty Hinks, both of Austin, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
