Harold Ernest Buss, 90, Rochester, MN, died on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Rochester East Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born on March 17, 1928, in Ostrander, MN, to John and Grace (Gatlin) Buss. Harold attended school in Ostrander through the eighth grade and enlisted in the Air Force at 17. He served in the Air Force from 1945 to 1949 when he then joined the Navy, serving another 4 years. Following his military service, Harold worked for many years for Leon Joyce Construction, and for Jenny-O following his move to the Kellogg, MN area. In September of 1986 he married Dawn (Opstein). They settled in Oronoco. Harold and Dawn enjoyed traveling during the early years of their marriage. They later bought some land near Kellogg, Minnesota and lived in the Kellogg area until 2014 when they moved back to Rochester to be closer to family. Harold loved living in the country and enjoyed working in the yard and walking with their many pets out on the country roads. He is survived by his wife, Dawn (Opstein), stepchildren Polly (Ron) Gilgenbach, Jay Sather and Jim (Gail) Sather; eight grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brother, Faye; and many nieces and nephews. Harold will be buried with military honors at Grandview Cemetery on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at 10 a.m.
