Greg Hofer, 57, left this earth for his home in heaven to be with Jesus, his savior, on July 11, 2012. He passed away at home of natural causes. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church, 4240 18th Ave. NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Rev. Jim Filbeck will be officiating with interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Greg was born to Melvin and Evangeline (Tschetter) Hofer at Yankton, SD on June 6, 1955. Greg spoke often of his happy childhood in Pickstown, SouthDakota and his wonderful friends. At the age of 13, the family moved to Riverdale, North Dakota where he graduated from high school. He went on to receive his bachelor of Science degree in -May 1977 from the University of North Dakota. In June of 1977, he began work as a Laboratory Technologist at Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota, where he continued to work for 34 years until he retired last year. Over the years, Greg opened his home, and provided transportation and encouragement to many family and friends coming to Mayo Clinic for treatment. Greg had the opportunity to see Mayo and God work miracles in the lives of many people. Greg was a member of the Assembly Church in Rochester and served as an usher and greeter. He enjoyed riding his Harley, playing golf, fishing, and camping. He was a life long Green Bay Packers fan. Greg dearly loved his nieces and nephews, and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with them. In the past few years Greg faced many challenges, but because of God's love working in his life, he was able to trust the Lord to help him finish his race well. He is survived by his father, Melvin Hofer of Bismarck, ND; Sister, Kandice (Jeff) Frankhauser of Bismarck, ND; Nephew, Chad Isaak of Pick City, ND; Nieces, Allicia (Steve) Maestas of Littleton, CO; Bree (Joel) Jahnke of Bismarck, ND; Lacey Zitzman of Bismarck, ND; Great Nephews, Sage Maestas, Jaxon Jahnke; Great Nieces, Vanessa Isaak, Morgan Maestas, and Brooklyn Jahnke. Gregory was preceded in death by his mother, Evangeline, and infant brother. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to Campus Crusade for Christ.
