Gordon R. Meyers

Memorial services for Gordon R. Meyers, 83, of Rochester, MN will be at 11:00am on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Hosanna Lutheran Church with the Rev. William D. Meiers officiating.Burial of his cremated remains will be at 3:00pm on Friday at the Preston State Veterans Cemetery.Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Gordon Ryan Meyers was born on February 27, 1932 in LeRoy, MN to Clarence and Edith (Blackmer) Meyers.He passed away on January 25, 2016 at the Seasons Hospice Cottage. Gordon graduated from LeRoy High School and received his B.A. from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA.He later received his Masters at Oklahoma State.He taught at Central Junior High School from 1958-1965 and at Rochester Community College from 1965-1991.He served in the United States Marines from 1950-1952.On June 26, 1954 he married Mary Ellen Thoreson at the Ostrander Lutheran Church.Gordon and Mary Ellen enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail, fishing and biking. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen of Rochester; children, Paula Meyers of Chaska, MN and Bruce E. Meyers of Rochester, MN.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wendell and a sister, Kathryn Smith. Memorials are suggested to Mayo Clinic Alzheimers Research.
