Gertrude Seegmiler

Gertrude (Malli) Seegmiller, age 92, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on Thursday, January 10th, 2019, at the Lake City Nursing Home in Lake City, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14th, 2019, at the Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Funeral Home. Burial of cremains will take place this summer at the Locust Cemetery in Locust, Iowa. Gertrude Caroline Seegmiller (Malli) was born on January 24th, 1926, the daughter of John and Martha (Sorenson) Malli near Decorah, Iowa. Gertrude attended country school near Frankville, Iowa. She moved with her family to Chicago, IL, where she graduated from high school. Gertrude later moved back to Decorah and married Jules Fretheim February 23, 1946. Together they had three children. Gertrude later married Floyd Seegmiller on July 22, 1955 at Methodist Church in Caledonia, MN. Gertrude was a loving mother, homemaker, and bookkeeper for Seegmiller Rock Products. In 2000, Gertrude, Floyd and their daughter Linda moved to Rochester, MN. Gertrude was very involved in senior citizen activities and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Gertrude eventually resided at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home and most recently resided at the Lake City Nursing Home. Gertrude was truly one of a kind and will always be remembered for her generosity, compassion, kind heart, and fashion sense. Gertrude was very fashion forward; she always dressed to impress. Her approach to life was to be happy, enjoy the ride, if you want it to go for it, and take risks. Gertrude always looked at life from a positive angle and made those who surrounded her know how important they were. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Gertrude's survivors include her daughter: Linda Seegmiller, Rochester, MN. Her son: Gary (Jane) Seegmiller, Stockholm, WI. Five grandchildren: Jesse (Courtney) Seegmiller, Jenna (Joseph) Kells and Kari (Christopher) Shaw; Nichole (Michael) Driver and Joshua Carlson. Seven great grandchildren: Hayden and Sophia McNallen, Kendra, Konner, Kelsey Driver; Sydney and Trenton Seegmiller. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents John and Martha; her husband, Floyd in 2005; her daughter, Martha in 2017; two sisters: Colletta Malli, Kathryn Ferguson in 2006; one brother at infancy: John Malli; and one brother-in-law: Earl Ferguson in 1963.
