Georgia Fay Scholz, ne Medlin, died November 10, 2013 at the Charter House at the age of 87.She lived her last years under the care of the dedicated and loving nursing staff at Charter House, and is remembered by her husband, Dr. Donald Scholz, and loving family and friends as an example of service and accomplishment. Georgia was born June 12, 1926 in Akron, Ohio; the daughter of Laura and George Medlin, and the sister of Thora and a half brother, Horace.She and Donald married in August 1947 in Akron, and raised four children together in Rochester. In 1944, Georgia graduated from Akron Central High School.In her senior year, she was awarded the silver Womanhood Cup for her scholastic achievements, and accomplishments in music as a pianist and solo participant for choral ensembles. Following graduation, she enrolled in the Cadet Nursing Corp program at Akron City Hospital.Her nursing degree was conferred in 1947, and later, at the age of 42, she earned her BA degree in nursing at St. Theresas College in Winona, Minnesota in 1971. She continued her nursing career at St. Marys during her husbands fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, and served for several years in the St. Marys Hospital intensive care unit shortly after it opened. As a sixty-two year member of the Rochester First Presbyterian Church, Georgia served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and was active in womens circles.She was a member of the Rochester Music Guild, participated in the Keyboard Club, and greatly enjoyed serving as a Pink Lady volunteer at the Rochester Methodist hospital.Georgia also enriched the lives of young musicians for thirty years as a private piano teacher in her home.Her appreciation of music and ability to share its beauty with others fostered a love of music in not only her students, but also her children and grandchildren. Georgias other major interests included sewing, gardening, dancing, and travel.Her foremost pleasure was sailing in the Caribbean on a Clipper ship that had three or four masts. Georgia is survived by her husband Don, daughters, Mary Ann Farrington, Dublin, Ohio, and Susan Gregor, Middletown, Connectticut, and sons, Robert Scholz and wife Judy, Portland, Oregon,and Dr. David Scholz and wife Dr. Sara Sacco, Charlotte, North Carolina. She had ten grandchildren, Nathan Farrington, Catherine Farrington Garcia, Elizabeth, Marie, and Christina Scholz, Benjamin, Jack, and Henry Scholz, Bryan Gregor, and Jennifer Gregor Rider, and one great granddaughter, Samantha Rider. A celebration of Georgias life will be held at the First Presbyterian church in Rochester on November 21, 2013 at 11:00am.Her remains will be inurned in the family plot in the Granger Fairview Cemetery in Granger, Ohio.
