George William Thomas

George William Thomas, 82, of Rochester, died Monday, May 27, 2013 at his home with family at his side. George was born May 16, 1931 in Rochester to William and Frances Thomas.He graduated from Rochester John Marshall High School and served in the US Navy.He married Maria Woonas on October 30, 1955.He was a member of Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church where he served on the Parish Council and other committees.He was also a member of the Exchange Club.George was a dedicated husband, father, and grandparent.He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, and his weekly lunches and coffee with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Maria of Rochester; sons, Jim (Pamela) Thomas of Charlotte, NC and Mark (Julia) Thomas of Atlanta, GA; and his grandchildren, Matthew, George, and Dianna.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis; granddaughter, Emily; and nephew, William. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, 703 W. Center Street with Reverend Father Mark Munoz officiating.Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #92.A visitation will be held from 5:00 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 30 with a 7:00 pm Trisagion Prayer Service at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church for beautification of the sanctuary.
