George Francis Sedivy (Bud), 89, peacefully passed away on February 11, with family by his side, at Homestead Rehabilitation and Care Center, where he received hospice care for the last 8 days. He was the eldest child of George Sr. and Gladys Sedivy, born in Montgomery, MN. After graduating from the University of MN with a degree in electrical engineering, he married Diane (Kruger) and they made their home in Rochester. George worked at Waters Instruments for 33 years. His success earned him the role of Vice President, where he developed the first kidney transport machine and many other lifesaving medical devices. Later in life, he enjoyed the many connections he made while working at Lourdes High School.
He was a devout Catholic and long-time member of Pax Christi Church. George enjoyed golfing, gardening, wood carving, traveling, and satisfying his sweet tooth. He and Diane enjoyed many trips to Europe, and he visited many other countries, including Russia and China, during his career. Later in his life, he became a cat lover.
Ina and Alice will miss him.
George leaves behind his wife of 65 years (Diane). Together, they raised 6 children, all of whom survive: Liz (Jon) Giese, Ellen (Tom) Crocco, Sara Sedivy (Kathy), Katie (Charlie) Dison, Trish (Jeff) Gerkins, and Pete Sedivy. He is also survived by 8 special grandchildren: Daniel Collins, Meghan Doyen, Erin Weihl, Caroline Cacha, Michael Crocco, in addition to Sarah, Claire, and Nick Gerkins. Two great-grandchildren were recently welcomed to the family: Isla Doyen and Weston Weihl.
He is also survived by his brother Mike Sedivy and sister Pat (Donn) Fahrendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack, and sister Mary.
Special thanks to Dr. Andy Vaughan, his Mayo Clinic Primary Care physician, for his exceptional care over the years.
