Funeral services for George L. Moyer, 88, of Rochester, Minnesota will be at 11:00am on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Evangel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jeff Utecht officiating.Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.Visitation will be Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home from 4:00 7:00pm and also one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. George was born in Frackville, Pennsylvania on October 13, 1923 to Harvey and Edyth (Faulder) Moyer.George died Friday, February 17, 2012 at Golden Living Center East in Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers John and Thelbert, a sister, Thelma, and a grandson, Andrew James Smith. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Ruth Lillian (Bush); a son, Stephen and wife Debra (Hughes) of Oregon, WI; a daughter Suzanne (Moyer) and James Smith living in Eden Prairie, MN.Grandchildren are Meghan (Mike) Wells (Moyer), Erin and Alyssa Moyer, Colin and Ryan Smith. After graduating from high school, George attended the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA.In 1944 he was drafted into the Army and served in the Phillipines until 1946 when he was discharged from the Army.He returned to complete his nursing program in Philadelphia.In 1948 he came to Rochester when he was accepted in the Mayo Clinic's Physical Therapy program.After graduation, he stayed on as a staff therapist and later became the director of the Physical Therapy Department until he retired in 1984. After retiring, he became very active in painting, silk flower arranging and rubber stamping.He loved making flower arrangements and even more the giving of them to his many friends and family.He and Ruth traveled and spent many enjoyable hours visiting their grandchildren and watching and cheering at their sporting events.He has been an active member of Evangel United Methodist Church, which has meant so much to him over the years.George was a prayer warrior and he will be remembered for his generosity, his smile and his caring and serving nature.
