Byron- Funeral services for George E. Ross, 78, who died at the Lake City Medical Center on April 8, 2011 will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron on Tuesday, April 12th at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Bob Kleinke officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Visitation at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes will be on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and then at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Memorials are requested to the American Heart Association.George was born in Rochester on May 10, 1932 to George H. and Ella (Vorbeck) Ross. He grew up in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. He worked at Waters Connley from 1950-1954. He married Jeanette M. Knutson in Rochester on May 24, 1953. On November 10, 1953 he joined the U.S. Army serving as an M.P. until his discharge on January 4, 1956. After the military he joined IBMand he worked in Purchasing. He retired after 32 years. He and his wife lived in Byron from 1962 to 2000. They moved to Perham to a lake home for 7 years. They then moved to Wanamingo about 4 years ago where they were currently living. George enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Byron American Legion, and a 45 year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; daughters, Pamela Driscoll (Dave) of Rochester, MN, Cindy Ross (Mark Porter) of Rochester, MN, Cheryl Ross (Brad Meyer) of Red Wing, MN, and Pat Bartel (Scott) of Byron, MN; sons, James Ross (Theresa) of Kasson, MN and Michael Ross (Kim) of Byron, MN; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles Ross and a sister Lottie Olson.
