George Kasdagly, 86, of Rochester, died July 20, 2011, at the Bay Breeze Nursing and Retirement Center, in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Born November 24, 1924, on the island of Samos, Greece, to Constantine and Kyriaki (Kanari) Kasdagly.On October 21, 1951, he married Catherine Tsangaris in Athens, Greece.George served in the Greek Army and fought in WWII from 1940 until 1945.He was a highly decorated staff sergeant serving under the British and New Zealand infantry command in North Africa. He has a brother Nicholas living in Samos, Greece, and two sisters Evagelitsa Linaki (preceded him in death) and Helen Papakonstantinou who lives on the island of Rhodes, Greece.Other survivors include his wife, Catherline of Rochester; his three sons, Dino Kasdagly (Tricia) of Rochester, MN; Anthony Kasdagly (Gabriella) of Tampa, FL; and Michael Kasdagly (Joan) of Eagan, MN; and his seven grandchildren that he was most proud of; Maria (25), Christopher (24), Nicholas (22), Matthew (19), Alexandra (18), Sophia (13) and Hannah (11). A proud naturalized Greek-American who lived in Clairton, PA from 1952 until 1964, and then moved to Bridgeport, CT and worked as a grey iron foundry man until his retirement in 1987.He moved to Rochester, MN in 1989 and attended Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church. A funeral service will be held 10:00am Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Holy Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church 703 W. Center St., Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester.
