Evelyn Marian Petri, 88, died on Saturday, March 23, 2019 and Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester. She was born on May 31, 1930 in Virginia, Minnesota to Elmer and Lydia (Rivers) Maki. She graduated in 1948 from Roosevelt High School in Virginia. In 1950 she received an Associate's Degree in Education from St. Cloud State Teacher's College, and in 1964 a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She also did post graduate work at UMD. For thirty-two years she was a Minnesota school teacher in Gilbert, Chisholm, Buhl, and Mt. Iron-Buhl and was an active member of the NEA and MEA. In 1986, she retired. On December 26, 1950, she married Angelo Petri in Buhl, Minnesota where they made their home until 1998. They lived in Mt. Iron, Minnesota until 2002 when they moved to Byron, Minnesota to be closer to family. In 2013 they moved to The Homestead in Rochester where she lived until her death. While living in Buhl, she was an active member of the First Lutheran Church where she was a choir member, organist, served on the church council, worked in the Woman's Group, and was a Sunday School Musician which combined two of her loves: children and music. She was an avid curler and belonged to the Buhl Curling Club, also the Senior Citizens' Center, and she served on the Buhl's library board. While living in Byron, Minnesota, she was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church. Evelyn enjoyed music, singing, cooking, baking, making jam, watching The Vikings and Gopher football, and being with friends. Her greatest joy was being with her family, especially her great grandchildren who learned much from her. She never stopped teaching. She was preceded in death by her parents. Her survivors are her husband of 68 years, Angelo, Rochester, daughter Linda (Dan) Case of Rochester, two granddaughters Dana (Derick) Behrends, Rochester, and Jessica (Joe) Fick, Glencoe, Minnesota, two step-grandchildren, Mason Case, Rochester, and Sasha (Andy Kranz) Case, Minocqua, Wisconsin, five great-grandchildren, Hailey Behrends, Peyton Behrends, Rihanna Behrends, Brock Fick, and Jackson Fick, and three step-great-grandchildren, Jacklynn Case, Valerie Case and Margo Kranz. She is also survived by her brother Charles (Bertha) Maki from Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral celebrating Evelyn's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
