ROCHESTER, MN:Evangeline (Van) Martha Voigt, 91, died peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester MN. Evangeline found the greatest pleasure in spending time with her family and close friends, especially on holidays and other special occasions. She enjoyed the home cooking and never left an event without some containers of food to take home.Van has been an avid reader all her life. In high school when she ran out of reading materials she read the dictionary. She read several books a week and in her later years she enjoyed reading magazines and watching TV and movies.She followed politics and world affairs until her death. Evangeline M. Senn was born February 18, 1924 to Andrew and Alice (Gstalder) Senn in Mound Prairie Township, Houston County, MN.Evangeline was a graduate of Houston (MN) High School.She served stateside as a WAVE in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II.Evangeline married Stanley Halverson in 1948 and was widowed a couple of years later.Van later married Merlin Voigt and was divorced in 1968. During her long life she was the owner/manager of the Harmony (MN) Hotel, co-owner/manager of the Kom-Cee Supper Club, performed factory work and restaurant cook, and retired from her position as a Central Service Technician at Rochester Methodist Hospital.Following her retirement, Van was active in the Rochester Senior Center and the Mayo Friendship club. Evangeline is survived by her children, Ken (Linda) Halverson, Houston, MN, Diane Halverson, Houston, MN, Donald Voigt, Glendale, CA, Richard Dewey Voight, Rochester, MN, Deb (Steve) Niedfeldt, Rochester, MN, Dawn Voigt, Pewaukee, WI, and Denise (Chris) Koenig, Oronoco, MN; daughter-in-law Wanda Voigt, Kasson, MN.; daughter-in-law Sibille Kaltenbach;13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons Dennis and Peter, 4 brothers and one sister. A Visitation and Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes' Chapel.
