Eugene Murrell

Reverend Eugene "Gene" Murrell, 64, died on February 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gene was born February 9, 1961, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to parents Theadore and Anetta (Houser) Murrell. He grew up in Mitchell, Nebraska, and graduated from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna. There, he met the love of his life, Vona Brodhead. They married on August 30, 1986, in Rochester, MN.

Gene owned Gene Murrell Construction Company in Rochester and later spent 28 years working as a minister. In his later years, he worked part-time for Eagle Brook Church, which was his favorite position. Gene deeply loved his family, especially his nine grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his pets, hunting, the outdoors, and CrossFit.

Gene is survived by his wife, Vona Murrell; children Adam Murrell, Ashley (Kendrick) Bachman, and Amber (Bryant Zahradnik) Murrell; grandchildren Evelyn, Emma, Hailey, Hannah, Jack, Ezra, Levi, Kade, and Emery; and siblings Robert (Kat) Murrell, Kathy (Kirk) Deal, and Carolyn Trafficante.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home (5421 Royal Pl NW). A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the surviving family members or Eagle Brook Church.
