Emilio Loiacono

March 11, 1927 — December 3, 2019

Mr. Emilio A. LoIacono, of Rochester, MN, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Shorewood Senior Living Communities at the age of 92. He was born in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, NY on March 11, 1927. He was orphaned at age eight, at which time his relations brought him to St. John's Home for Boys in Brooklyn, NY, where he attended both elementary and high school. The Brothers of Mary taught him in both schools. Mr. LoIacono played the trumpet and French horn in both the St. John's Home for Boys' Band and the Metropolitan Vocational High School Symphony Orchestra. He enlisted in the US Navy in February of 1945, and served in the Pacific Theatre in Saipan. Mr. LoIacono received the American Theatre, Asiatic Pacific and Victory Ribbons. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946, and received a Commemorative Medal from Saipan Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2007. Mr. LoIacono married his wife, Inge in 1962, and moved to Rochester upon his retirement in 1989. Mr. LoIacono was a resident of Shorewood Senior Campus, and was active in a number of Church, community and Shorewood activities. His interests included classical music, theatre, drawing and swimming. He was Adjutant, Assistant Gaming Manager and a life member of VFW Post 1215 and a member of American Legion Post 92. Mr. LoIacono was preceded in death by his parents, Margherita and Ippolito; his brothers, Andrew, Peter, Alfred, and Sebastian and sister, Julia. He is survived by his wife, Inge; son, Mark (Lisette); nieces, Anita Williams of Juneau, Alaska, Julie LoIacono of Greeley, Colorado; nephew, Nicholas LoIacono of Hastings, Minnesota; and cousin, Teresa Wolar of Miami Springs, Florida. A Traditional Roman Catholic Burial Mass will be held on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Rochester, Minnesota. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be provided to Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Church or VFW Post 1215. A special, "Thank you" to the staff at Seasons Hospice for their unending care, compassion, love, support and prayers during Emilio's last days and hours.
