Funeral services for Eloise V. Applen, 76, of Rochester, will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 11, 2019, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2703 9th Ave NW Rochester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Eloise was born on May 2, 1942, in Red Wing, MN to Arnold and Victoria (Banitt) Alms. She passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, in Denver, CO visiting her daughter and granddaughter. Eloise graduated from Red Wing High School and shortly after she moved to Rochester. She met Larry in Rochester and they were married on August 31, 1963, in Haycreek, MN. They lived in the Albert Lea area and in Colorado, before moving back to Rochester in 1972. She retired from working at US West after 30 years and her after retirement job lasted for 20 years at JC Penny. They enjoyed snowmobiling and cross country motorcycle trips. Eloise also looked forward to gardening with her family and getting together with her Birthday Group. She cherished her time with her granddaughter and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly Taylor of Denver, CO and her son, David Applen of Rochester; one granddaughter, Emma; one sister, Marilyn Palmer of Rochester and two brothers, Roger (Jean) Alms of Red Wing, MN, Glenn Alms of Goodhue, MN, and her dog, Andy.
