Ellen "Connie" K. Fritz Spoo

Ellen K. Connie Fritz Spoo, 93, of Rochester, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at Madonna Towers. Connie was born July 4, 1920 in Doylestown, WI to Frank and Brigetta (Doherty) Connors. She was a 1937 graduate of Columbus High School in Columbus, WI and a graduate of St. Marys School of Nursing. On December 27, 1943, Connie married Sylvester Fritz and he preceded her in death in 1954. In 1983, Connie then married George Spoo and he preceded her in death in 1984. Connie was a member of the St. Marys Alumni Association, a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, the Rochester Senior Center and the Catholic Daughters of America. She volunteered at St. Marys Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. Connie enjoyed sewing, playing tennis, and walking. She was an avid sports fan, especially of University of St. Thomas basketball. Above all, Connie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Connie is survived by her children, Jill (Larry) Sprengel of Torrance, CA., Stephen (Beverly) Fritz of Mendota Heights, MN., Bridget (Patrick) Griffin of Rochester, MN., Maureen (Al) Dingmann of Kimball, MN; son-in-law, Dan Nelson of Edina, MN; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, David (Gerri) Connors of Plymouth, WI; sister-in-law, Agnes Connors of Madison, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her husbands, Sylvester and George; daughter, Patricia Nelson; sisters, Brigetta, Frances, Alice, Ethel; brothers, Bernard and Delbert; good friend, Richard Stier and her parents, Frank and Brigetta. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes 5421 Royal Place NW., Rochester. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be at Blooming Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Clinic Nursing Scholarships or to the T. Emil Gauthier Memory Care Unit at Madonna Towers.
