ROCHESTER, MINN:Elizabeth M. Arnold, 91, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 12, 2014. Elizabeth Maria Thome was born July 11, 1923 to Katarina Thome on July 11, 1923 in M'Gladbach, Germany. She graduated from high school and completed her nurse's training in Germany. She worked as a nurse in the triage hospitals set up by the Sister's of the Catholic Church during WWII in Germany. After the war, she immigrated to the United States in 1953. Elizabeth lived in Wabasha, MN and worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital until moving to Cannon Falls, MN in 1955. She married Robert V. Arnold on June 21, 1958. She worked as an R.N. at the Cannon Falls Hospital for over twenty years. She is most remembered for assisting with the delivery of many babies at the hospital. Elizabeth and Robert moved to Rochester, MN where she worked at St. Marys Hospital until her retirement in 1987. After her retirement, she was housekeeper for Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN for many years. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic church in Rochester, MN. Despite her age, she enjoyed working with her computer; reading news items, playing Cribbage and Solitaire and e-mailing her children and grandchildren while receiving and viewing their many pictures and letters. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Robert M. (Jacqueline) Arnold, Rochester, MN, her three daughters; Marita (Ted) Holien, Inver Grove Heights, MN, Mary (John) Iozzo, Golden Valley, AZ, and Kathy (John Kapustka) Arnold, Plymouth, MN; eleven grandchildren, Tyler (Ashley) Holien, Cory, andTrevor Holien, Christopher Hartman, Emily, Johnny, Lara Iozzo, Brandon, Aaron, Katelyn, Sean Devine; three great grandchildren, Imogen, Oliver and Maebel Holien. She was preceded in death by her mother and husband Robert. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester, MN with Rev. Fr. Paul Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial next to her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery in Rushford, MN at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.
