Elizabeth Anne Mcgeeney

July 24, 1968 — February 20, 2019

Elizabeth Anne McGeeney, beloved child of God, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic, St. Mary's campus after a long, courageous struggle with heart disease. She was surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was born July 24, 1968 in Luverne, MN to Sherman and Rachel (Maakestad) Coltvet. She attended Wanamingo schools through the tenth grade and graduated from Mayo High School in 1986. Elizabeth earned a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from St. Olaf College in 1990. She worked as a Pediatric RN at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and the NYU Medical Center ICU. Elizabeth and James McGeeney were married September 25, 1993. They moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 1995 where she worked at the Mayo Clinic, St. Mary's Hospital, in the Pediatric ICU. Elizabeth obtained a Master's Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing at the University of Minnesota in 1999. She then worked as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Children's Hospital of St. Paul in Pediatric Oncology. Elizabeth was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN, where she directed the "Small Singers" Children's Choir. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, active in the PTSA, loved music, singing, playing guitar, sewing, traveling and entertaining family and friends. She was a spokesperson for the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" program. Elizabeth was funny, spontaneous and authentic. She unapologetically spoke her truth, using her voice on behalf of others. She was a supportive, compassionate and open hearted friend, and enjoyed life with her family to its fullest. Elizabeth is survived by her husband, James McGeeney of Rochester; children, Anna and Anh; mother, Rachel Coltvet of Rochester, MN; brother, Timothy Coltvet (Linnea and Anders) of Stillwater, MN; sister-in-law, Sarah C.A. Coltvet (Alex Arnold) of Sauk Centre, MN; brother-in-law, Paul Erdmann (Madeline, August and Miles) of Minneapolis, MN; mother-in-law, Mary Lee McGeeney, Brooklyn, NY; sister-in-law, Mary McGeeney, Hampton Beach, NH; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Amy McGeeney, Rockaway Beach, NY and many family and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father, Sherman Coltvet; brother, Jonathan Coltvet; sister, Stephanie Coltvet Erdmann; father-in-law, Lawrence McGeeney; and sister-in-law, Kate McGeeney. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 810 3rd Ave. SE, Rochester, MN. Visitation will be at Bethel from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, and one hour prior to the service (12-1 p.m.) on Saturday. The Rev. Dr. Norman Wahl will officiate with the inurnment at Bethel Lutheran Church Columbarium at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (donatenow.heart.org) or Bethel Lutheran Church, Rochester, MN.
