Eldor Harlin Weist, 94, of Rochester, MN., passed away December 25, 2017 at Olmsted Medical Center Hospital in Rochester. He was born on June 25, 1923 in rural Nodine, Winona County, MN. to Max and Ella (Rodenberg) Weist. He attended high school in LaCrosse, WI. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served during WWII for three years as a gunner's mate on merchant ships in the Pacific and Atlantic seas, until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Eldor then attended machinist trade school and worked as a machinist for Libby's in Rochester until his retirement. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and picking strawberries to share with the neighbors. Eldor also enjoyed camping trips, attending the State fair and Minnesota Twins training camps with his camper. He was an avid reader. In his younger years, Eldor rode Harley motorcycles and then Moped in his later years. He built bluebird houses and placed them on the family farm. Eldor was a member of the American Legion and of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a very kind and giving person who would help anyone in need. Eldor is survived by his brother Norman (Doris) Weist of Rochester; sister Irene Southwick of Rochester, and many nephews, nieces and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Robert Southwick. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester. Visitation will be 1 hr prior to the service Thursday at Ranfranz and Vine. Burial with military honors will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
