Elaine L. Whynaucht, 98, of Rochester, died peacefully in her sleep on April 6, 2017 at Madonna Towers in Rochester, MN. Elaine was born September 24, 1918 in Blue Earth County, MN. to Casper and Caroline (Thoreson) Quam. She lived in Pemberton, MN and graduated high school there. On September 24, 1939, she married Cecil Whynaucht in Rochester. Cecil died in 1949. Elaine worked in the clinical research department for Mayo Clinic at Saint Marys Hospital, retiring in 1981 after 20 years of service Elaine was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, following sports, traveling and reading. She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Janet) Whynaucht of Missouri, Gary (Jennifer) Whynaucht of South Carolina, and Ronald (Barbara) Whynaucht of Tennessee; a daughter, Carol Blucher of Rochester, MN.; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; four sisters; one brother; and one great-grandson Tyler. Special thanks to the staff at Madonna Towers memory care unit and also to the staff at Mayo Clinic Hospice for their care of Elaine. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 222 6th Avenue SW Rochester with Reverend Nathaniel Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery, Marion Township, MN. Memorials may be designated to Trinity Lutheran Church Rochester.
