Rochester: Elaine Darlene (Anderson) Wellvang, 84, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away May 18, 2010 at Seasons Hospice.Elaine was born in Lyle, MN on December 30, 1925 to Arthur and Lillian (Nelson) Anderson. She was raised in Zumbrota, MN, graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1943 and married Phil Wellvang that same year. Elaine raised their son Jim with help from her parents while Phil was in the military. After he returned they settled in Zumbrota, where Steve was born, and Phil began his career in the insurance business. They moved to Rochester in 1954, where she worked at the Kahler Corporation for many years. Elaine was a gentle woman whose quiet energy and devotion enriched many lives. Her creativity added a special touch to everything she did, from making gifts to planning parties. She supported Phil throughout his career, entertaining clients, traveling to insurance conventions, and in her retirement, working at Phil's office.She volunteered at numerous organizations, including the VFW Auxiliary, Credit Women-International, and the Rochester Public Library. She was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester for over 55 years, and a member of Ruth Circle. She enjoyed camping, winters in Arizona and traveling to visit family. Above all, Elaine was a gifted and gracious hostess who welcomed family and friends into her home.She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Phillip Wellvang, son James of Arlington, TX; son Steven (Melinda) of Minneapolis, MN; grandsons Thomas, Daniel and Michael; brother Richard (Sue) of Sahuarita, AZ; brother David (Linda) of Clearwater, FL; sister-in-law Rose Landsman (Jerry) of Deerfield, IL; much loved nieces, nephews and their families; and many dear friends. Her parents and a brother, Arthur Allen Anderson, Jr., preceded her in death.Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with Reverend Karna Hagen officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gloria Dei Endowment Fund or to Seasons Hospice.
