ROCHESTER, MINN: Edna Owen died on March 4, 2012 at the age of 95 years old. Edna was born in 1917 in Conrad, Iowa. She received her RN degree from the University of Iowa and in 1939 she married Charles Owen. After Charles served in the Army Medical Corps during WWII, they moved to Rochester where he completed his medical training and joined the Mayo Clinic staff. She was a homemaker, a member of the Tourist Club and community volunteer in many organizations: PTA, Girl Scouts, Civic League Day Nursery, Meals on Wheels, and over 50 years as an active member of the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president in 1980. She and her husband were world travelers, from Timbuktu to Antarctica, to the pyramids of Egypt, to the Great Wall of China. They also enjoyed gardening, tennis, their summer home in Northern Minnesota and they kept their radio tuned to 91.7FM, MPR classical music station. Edna is survived by her two daughters: Martha (Craig) Coulam of Nashville, and Mary (Jeff Scott) Owen of Seattle; 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and one daughter, Nancy Anne Owen Fisher. A Celebration of Ednas life will be held at a later date, with complete details to follow.
