Funeral services for Edith E. Martin, 91, of Rochester, Minnesota will be at 11:00am on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Wheeler-Handlon officiating.Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.Visitation will be from 3:00 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Edith Elizabeth Harvey was born on May 3, 1922 in Eveleth, Minnesota to William and Malena (Davis) Harvey.She died on December 3, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Edith graduated from Eveleth High School and attended nurses training in Marquette, Michigan.She received her Bachelors in public health from the University of Minnesota.She worked as a nurse in San Francisco, California and moved to Rochester, Minnesota in the late 1940's.Edith married Donald Martin on April 11, 1953 in Eveleth, Minnesota.She worked as a public health nurse in Rochester and later as a school nurse and at Madonna Towers.Edith was very active in the community, with volunteer work, visiting shut-ins, the Mayo wig shop, Meals on Wheels and in her church. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, ceramics, camping, knitting and the cabin on the lake.She enjoyed learning and was a theological scholar. Survivors include her children, Peggy Martin (Ellie Emanuel) of St. Paul, Minnesota, William (Christine) Martin of Lake Forest, California, Karen (Dennis) Sabatke of Rochester, Minnesota and Gordon (Andrea) Martin of Milltown, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, two brothers and an infant son, Donald George. Memorials can be directed to the Reading Center, Alzheimers's Association or donor's choice.
