Earl J. Schillo, 82, of Rochester, MN died Friday, November 15, 2013 at Golden Living Center East. Earl Joseph Schillo was born on December 14, 1930 in Glencoe, Minnesota. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1948. Earl served in the Air Force in New Mexico where he serviced airplane propellers. He was discharged in 1956. Earl married his beloved bride, Loretta Fischer on May 12, 1962 at St. Marys in Golva, North Dakota.Earl received his college degree in business economics from North Dakota State University. After Earl received his degree, he held a variety of positions in health care administration. The family moved to Rochester in 1984, where Earl held various nursing home administrator positions. He finished his career as the administrator of the Fairview Nursing Home, retiring in 1998.Earls career accomplishments included building a new hospital in Wadena and constructing an addition in Glencoe. He was proud of being recognized as Administrator of the Year in 1992. In his retirement, Earl volunteered at the Area Agency on Aging counseling senior citizens on their Medicare bills, and received a national award recognizing his contributions. In his retirement, Earl enjoyed traveling with his wife, singing in the choir, and the camaraderie of longtime friends. He was well known and liked at the Rochester Athletic Club where he and Loretta worked out regularly until her death in 2011. Earl was an avid bridge player, coin collector, wood worker, bowler, and fisherman. He also valued his role as grandfather to Christian, Cory, Caleb, Ellie, Collin, Savannah and Pyper. Earl is survived by his children Paul (Brenda) Schillo of Wrenshall, MN, Barbara Schillo (Martha Osterberg) of Maplewood MN, Bruce (Denise) Schillo of Kasson, MN, and Kathleen Schillo (Bradley Hauser) of Excelsior, MN; and 7 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Loretta and his parents Aloys and Bessie. Memorial Mass will be Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Pax Christi Catholic Church.Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Pax Christi Catholic Church.Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Channel One Food Bank.
