E. Robert "Bob" Kintzi

E. Robert "Bob" Kintzi passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27,2014, at St. Elizabeth's Care Center in Wabasha, surrounded by his family. He was born July 17, 1934 to Eugene and Gertrude (Petersen) Kintzi in St. James, Minnesota.Upon graduation from high school in 1952, Bob attended the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis and Mankato State from 1952-1953, when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Korea from 1954 to 1955.On July 16, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Lucille Menne. They resided in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, where he completed his service at Offutt Air Force Base, and had a child, Kathryn. After honorable discharge, they moved to Mankato, Minnesota, where Bob completed his bachelor's degree in education, while working two jobs, and welcomed a second child, Gary, in 1959. Bob's first teaching position was in Postville, Iowa, followed by a year teaching in Winona, Minnesota. In 1963, the family moved to Rochester. He began teaching American History at Kellogg Junior High. He also served as a guidance counselor after receiving his Master's degree in 1966.Bob was also instrumental in the implementation of the modular scheduling system at the newly built John Adams High School in 1971, where he served as a guidance counselor until his retirement in 1994. His contributions to the community included serving as the coordinator of the YMCA's Big Brother Program for over 20 years.Upon retirement, he also served as a volunteer with the U.S. Census Bureau. Bob enjoyed many years of his retirement gardening, spending time with his family and their beloved dogs, Buffie, Missie & Muffie; as well as creating crafts and participating in craft shows with his wife, Lucille. He is survived by Lucille, his wife of nearly 59 years, daughter Kathryn (Ken) Gatliff, son Gary Kintzi, grandchildren Jarrod (Amanda) Kintzi and Jilann Kintzi (fianc Kyle Timmerman) and great-granddaughter, Ellise Kintzi, brother-in-law, John, sister-in-law, Betty, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeanette, a nephew and many brothers and sisters-in-law.A very special thank you to the loving and caring staff of the Mayo Hospice program, and special friends, Warren, Sharon, Jeannie, Amy and Lori. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home, with visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, and 1hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association and St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center in Wabasha. Online condolences are welcome at www.ranfranzandvinefh.com. He will be greatly missed.
