Dr. Maynard 'Mel' Albert Mellang

ROCHESTER -Dr. Maynard Mel A. Mellang, 83, died on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Madonna Meadows in Rochester. Mel was born in Albert Lea on December 28, 1928 to Maynard and Zella (Eide) Mellang.He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield and the University of Minnesota Dental School.Mel served in the U.S. Air Force, where he practiced dentistry in Cheyenne, WY.He moved to Rochester in the 1950's and married Marcia Edwards in 1958.He was a dentist in Rochester for over 30 years.Mel enjoyed gardening roses, cooking, baking, and playing piano. Mel is survived by four children, Becky (Todd) Bauernfeind, of Spokane, WA, Mindy (Scott) MacWilliams, of Oregon, WI, Amy (Scott) Swenson, of Rochester, MN, and Jay Mellang, of Farmington, MN; and nine grandchildren. Mel is preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; his parents; and a brother. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Lukes Episcopal Church (1884 22nd Street NW). Memorials can be directed to Madonna Towers or St. Croix Hospice.
